July 2016 Weight Loss Update – Scale/Non-Scale Victories

Can you believe that 7 months have already passed in 2016?! The number 7 is very significant in Biblical numerology. It represents completion. I’ve completed many things on my journey of transformation. I’m in awe of what God has done in and through my life. I still have goals to achieve. But I’m so grateful for the progress I’ve made so far. Slow and steady wins the race!
Weight Loss Update
I lost 1.8 lbs since my June weight loss update! I’ve lost 83 lbs since I restarted my journey in April 2015! At first, I was disappointed that I only lost 1.8 lbs since June. I know that I’ve lost and gained weight in that time period. But I know that I was stressed and didn’t sleep well. My workouts haven’t been as intense as prior months because I had hurt my knee. I’ve also missed meals and indulged. So everything has been off! But God has been faithful and I will still celebrate the 1.8 lbs lost!!! I won’t despise my progress. Progress IS progress!
1. Starting Size 22/24 Current Size 12 (depending on designer and cut)
2. Starting BMI – 48.1 (morbidly obese) Current BMI 33.8 (obese)
3. Measurements tracked since November 2015:
Neck – 16” Current – 14.5”
Arms – 16” Current – 13”
Chest – 45” Current – 34”
Waist – 42” Current – 36.5”
Hips – 49” Current – 43 3/4”
Thighs – 29” Current – 26.5”
Calves – 19” Current – 17”
(note: Compared to June 2016, I gained inches or remained the same in almost every area. )

If you’re not celebrating your non-scale victories, you’re missing out! Finding ways to celebrate my non-scale victories these past 2 months when the scale and measurements haven’t changed much, has definitely helped me to remain hopeful and faithful to my journey. I’ve been intentional with finding things to celebrate. I have so many things to be grateful for on my journey besides the physical pounds lost. I’m not ignoring or minimizing the physical weight loss. But I know that it is only part of the big picture. I’ll use the information to help me move forward, but it won’t define me.
In 2007, I completed a bootcamp taught by Mercedes Hughes, Bodifit by Mercedes. He’s an awesome trainer. He’s not a drill sergeant, but he does encourage you to do your best to finish strong. One of our weekly workouts was held at Kennesaw Mountain. We not only had to hike the mountain wearing backpacks filled with our gear (dumbbells, mats, water, towel), but we had to complete workouts along the way. I remember the first time that I made it to the top. I felt like Rocky after he ran to the top of the stairs in Philadelphia!!! I haven’t climbed the mountain since 2008. But the Holy Spirit encouraged me to climb the mountain with my husband as we celebrated our 19th wedding anniversary. A hike to celebrate our anniversary?! This couldn’t be my own idea! LOL But I asked my husband if he’d like to go and he was all in!!! We climbed the mountain together! The hike was challenging, 2 miles round trip. It was HOT!!!!!!!! But we didn’t stop until we reached the top. I believe it was a spiritual accomplishment as well as physical one. We are conquering mountains together as well as individually. This is what Ecclesiastes 4:12 NASB looks like:
“And if one can overpower him who is alone, two can resist him. A cord of three strands is not quickly torn apart.”
21 Day Ab Challenge
In June, I completed a 30 Day Ab Challenge . I was so happy that I could challenge myself to do what seemed to be impossible!! So I decided to do another Ab Challenge for July. I did an online search and found a 21 day Ab Challenge. But I gave myself a break for a few days and then started on July 5th. After scheduling my normal workouts and challenge workouts, I realized that this 21 Day Challenge was actually 25 days! LOL But I still committed to the schedule and completed it. Since this challenge had rest days, I had more flexibility. I missed 2 days on the schedule. But I immediately made up the missed challenge workouts the next day. I completed this challenge on July 30th!!! I had to figure out how to do unassisted sit ups and the reps of crunches were brutal. Instead of giving up and not even attempting the higher rep workouts, I broke the reps down into smaller chunks. This helped me to still finish strong. Again, God showed me that as long as I trust Him, He will help me to do what I can’t!
Since I’ve lost so much weight, nothing fits. No, really! None of my old clothes fit properly. I’m slowly rebuilding my wardrobe. But when I have special events to attend, I must find something quickly. I went to Ross looking for a dress. I found 2 dresses size 14/16. On my way to the fitting room, a pretty fuchsia dress caught my eye. I looked at the tag and saw that it was size 12 and designed by Anne Klein!!!!! At this point, I’ve been wearing size 14/16 dresses. Can I fit a size 12 dress by Anne Klein? The Holy Spirit encouraged me to try it on. What’s the worst that could happen? I tried it on. It fit!!! I was so amazed that I could cry. At my highest weight, I’ve worn a size 26/28. I can’t even remember when I wore a size 12. In high school, I wore a size 14/16. But I’m so glad that I moved past my fears and tried on the dress. I AM being transformed! If you’d like more info about the dress, click here.
If you’re on a weight loss journey, you already know how challenging finding the right clothing to fit your size can be. Now add to this the fact that I don’t like to shop, remember? LOL This is definitely not a good mix. So imagine my surprise when the Holy Spirit encouraged me to visit Ann Taylor and try on some dresses. I love the fashion at Ann Taylor, but haven’t felt comfortable shopping there because I was plus size. I never believed their fashion would fit me. But just like I had moved past my fashion fears in April, I had to do it again. I found several dresses in size 12 and proceeded to the fitting room to try them on. I was able to fit them. Can you believe it? At my highest weight, I wore a size 26/28. To fit into a size 12 is mind blowing!!! Now, the dresses may have fit really snug or had too much cleavage showing. LOL But nonetheless, I was able to fit into them. God is good! As I enter August, I must ask God for help to make NEW changes. August is the 8th month. 8 represents NEW beginnings in Biblical numerology. I feel a NEW shift on my journey so that I can experience NEW results. It won’t be easy. But I’m up for the challenge!
This is my NEW lifestyle! I must remain committed, focused and dedicated for the long haul. One day at a time, one step at a time, I WILL keep moving forward!

Here’s my food journal from 7/30. I celebrated my 19th wedding anniversary this week!I So my hubby and I have been enjoying our staycation and trying out new things. So you can see that we indulged! I didn’t go overboard. I still tracked my meals. I did drink water. But I’ve slacked on tracking my water intake. I will get back on track!
Today I started my new workout routine for August. I’ll be completing the August 2015 Write it Down, Work it Out Challenge again. Today was Cardio, so I walked in my neighborhood.
