I’ve completed another month on my journey of transformation!  16 months later and I’m still moving forward!  Every day is another opportunity for change.  If I want to be completely transformed, I must be willing to go through the process; no matter how long it takes.  I can’t shortcut the process.  I must do my part, and yield to God to do His part.  As long as I don’t give up, I will win!

Weight Loss Update

I lost 3.2 lbs since my July weight loss update!  I’ve lost 86.2 lbs since I restarted my journey in April 2015!  I’m not losing weight at the same rate as I did earlier on my journey.  I get frustrated and disappointed at the results.  But then I look at how far I’ve come since I started.  I’ve overcome many obstacles and am still overcoming.  I’m not just losing the weight to achieve a certain size or number on the scale.  Yes, I do have goals.  But I am making these changes for the rest of my life.  So, if it takes longer than I had planned; so be it.  I’ll still be grateful to God for ANY progress.  I will still celebrate.  I will still keep moving forward.

1.  Starting Size 22/24  Current Size 12 (depending on designer and cut)

2.  Starting BMI – 48.1 (morbidly obese)  Current BMI 33.3 (obese) (down .5)

3.  Measurements tracked since November 2015:

Neck – 16”  Current – 14.5” (same)

Arms – 16”  Current – 12.5” (down .5 “)

Chest – 45”  Current – 33” (down  1″)

Waist – 42”  Current – 36.5” (down .5 “)

Hips – 49”  Current – 43 3/4” (down 1.25 “)

Thighs – 29”  Current – 26.5” (increase .5″)

Calves – 19”  Current – 17” (same)

Non-Scale Victories

I had a hard time identifying my non-scale victories this month.  In fact, when I looked at my transformation picture for this month, I was disappointed at first.  I didn’t think that the outfit was flattering or showed my progress.  But then I made a shift.  Stop focusing on the negative and what I don’t like, and focus on what I DO like!  And then I shifted.  I was able to find more non-scale victories.  That’s why focus is so important on this journey of transformation.  If we allow ourselves to dwell on negativity, it will attract more negativity.  Unfortunately, that’s how this works.  We must be intentional with our thoughts even if they seem diametrically opposed to our reality.  We must keep believing to SEE!

 

August 2015 Write it Down, Work it Out Challenge

In 2015, I found this great write it down/work out challenge on Black Women Losing WeightAugust 2015 Write it Down, Work it Out Challenge .  This challenged me to keep a record of everything I ate and work out at least 5x/week.  I remember fighting this tooth and nail.  I didn’t want to be that person who felt like they were held hostage to tracking their meals and counting calories.  Where was the freedom in that?  But I learned that there was freedom in this process.  Knowing what I was eating gave me freedom to make healthier choices.  I simply didn’t know the nutrition of the food I was eating.  I thought I knew, but I really had no idea.  Knowing portion sizes, and nutritional value of food has truly helped me to do better. Even when I indulge, I am still mindful of portion sizes instead of mindlessly eating the entire bag or meal.  I’m so glad that I found this challenge.  I keep it and others in my regular rotation of workouts.  Who would have thought that I would be regularly tracking my meals via My Fitness Pal a year later?

 

21-Day Arm Sculpting Challenge

In July, I completed a 21 day Ab Challenge .  I am really enjoying these challenges.  I do them in addition to my normal workout.  They help me to become more consistent and dedicated to maintaining daily physical activity.  I find that doing 21 day challenges are still productive while allowing me some breathing room during the month to have days where I’m only doing 1 workout.  I found this 21 Day Arm Sculpting Challenge online.  I like how my arms are becoming more defined.  I can feel and see my biceps and triceps forming!  I even wear more sleeveless dresses and tops because of my arms!  :-)

OK ladies, I know this is such a sensitive topic but I have to address it.  When you lose weight, you will lose weight ALL over your body.  That includes our breasts!  I know!  For some, this is a relief.  We get a breast reduction without the surgery.  But for others, you might not want to get smaller.  Either way, prepare for it.  It’s going to happen!  I was in denial for months.  Before my journey, I went to get measured for a bra.  My size was a 44F.  Now I didn’t get a bra in that size.  I squeezed into old bras that were 42/44 DD.  Not comfortable or flattering.  But I did it.  Fast forward to last month.  I went to get measured again.  My size was a 38DDD!  I did purchase a bra in that size and it definitely made a difference in how my clothes fit.  Now this month, I found this bra in size 38DD and decided to try it on.  It fit!  I’m wearing the white bra in my transformation pic for this month.  As long as I’m losing the weight, I have to keep checking my bra size.  I want to make sure that everything is fitting properly.  If you want more info about the bras, click here.  .

September is my birthday month.  It’s always a time of reflection and gratitude.  I’m looking forward to celebrating more milestones on my journey and in life.  I pray that I’m able to encourage others as I continue to encourage myself.

Be encouraged on your own journey.  Don’t give up!  Keep moving forward!

 

How do you encourage others on their journey?

 

Here’s my food journal from 8/31.  Breakfast burritos have been a hit with my family.  Whole wheat tortillas filled with breakfast turkey sausage, eggs, spinach and cheese.  Yummy!  I like making my fried rice with brown rice and low sodium soy sauce.  It’s amazing how we only eat brown rice now, when you couldn’t pay me to eat it before.  Thank God for change!

I completed the August 2015 Write it Down, Work it Out Challenge this month.  I did not work out today.  No excuses.  I just got caught up with my work.
